The Maki-e Series

With the cooperation of the Oshita Kosen Kaga Maki-e Workshop we have
created an urushi and maki-e watch series. Beginning with the third lord
of the Kaga province Maeda Toshitsune's policy for the advancement of art
and craft, Kaga Maki-e has a proud three hundred and eighty year history.
The designs are based principally on masterpieces from Heian (794-1185)
and Kamakura (1185-1333) period national treasures and important cultural
assets. Through our exclusive watches, produced with loving care and
attention to detail we have created an opportunity to experience at close
hand the proud history of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

As the name suggests, this pattern was introduced to Japan from
the continent and was widely used in the Nara period (710-794).
The way in which the pattern extends outwards in four directions
is ideal as a watch face and has become a standard design.
